Auto Racing Information
Auto Racing began quickly after the creation of the first successful gasoline-fueled automobiles. It is believed that the first race ever organized was in 1887 by Monsieur Fossier, the chief editor of the Paris publication Le Vélocipède. Although it ran only 2 kilometers (from Neuilly Bridge to the Bois de Boulogne), it was a race in a car he had constructed with Albert, the Comte de Dion. However, as he was the only competitor to show up, some might find it hard to actually call it a race. Some consider the first car race (from Paris to Rouen) to have been in 1894. Georges Lemaître classified 1st in his Peugeot. Today, auto racing is one of the most popular sports with very advanced automobiles travelling at amazing speeds. Auto racing has various categories, including single-seater racing, touring car racing, sports car racing, production car racing, one-make racing, stock car racing, drag racing, off-rpoad racing and more.
